Overview
The Molecular Graphics and
Computation Facility is
located in 175 Tan
Hall. It is available to the College of Chemistry and campus
community with operations supported by modest
access and use fees.
Please contact the Facility Director, Dr. Kathleen Durkin, for more
information. She is usually in the Facility, 175 Tan Hall, but her office is
next door in 177 Tan Hall. Email is preferred (durkin AT berkeley). The phone
in 177 is 2-6719 and the phone in 175 is 3-0616.
Technical consulting is available on
project feasibility, equipment and software use. The Facility serves as
a research resource in computational chemistry and scientific
visualization for over 50 research groups in Chemistry and the wider
campus community.
Our mission is to provide high-performance
computer graphics and computing resources for research and educational
uses in chemistry. Founded in 1990, the Facility houses graphics
workstations, color printers, and
assorted other equipment.
In 2003, the facility received a grant from the National Science
Foundation (CHE-0233882) which allowed us to add a 96 cpu compute
cluster. In 2009, a renewal (CHE-0840505) allowed us to add a 576
processor cluster. Please reference these grants in publications
resulting from use
of the Facility.
